On August 4, CISF personnel at Terminal-3 of Delhi’s IGI airport pulled off a major crackdown when they detected diamonds weighing around 80 grams hidden in the waist belt of a passenger during a security check. The passenger was flying to Istanbul and was identified as Jitendra Persiyo.
The vigilance of CISF took the matter seriously and the incident was reported to senior officers and customs officials. After thorough examination of the mobile phone of the passenger and careful interrogation, it was found that his companion M Anuj Patil Bhagwan who was travelling on the same flight was also carrying diamonds. With the help of CCTV footage, this passenger was traced and stopped. On checking his handbag, diamonds weighing about 83 grams were recovered.
Thus, diamonds weighing a total of 163 grams were recovered from both the passengers, whose value is said to be around Rs 60 lakh. CISF has handed over these diamonds to the customs officials, who will now take further action in the case. This major success has shown the strictness and effectiveness of airport security.
